Chicago Cubs Lineup: Dansby Swanson Moves Up
Dansby Swanson is expected to bat leadoff for the Chicago Cubs in 2023, according to manager David Ross.
Swanson signed a seven-year, $177 million contract with the Cubs in December after spending the first six seasons of his career with the Atlanta Braves.
The 29-year-old shortstop is a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner. He batted .277 with 25 home runs and 90 RBIs in 2022.
Swanson is a versatile player who can also play second base and third base. He is expected to provide the Cubs with a much-needed boost at the top of the lineup.
The Cubs struggled to score runs in 2022, finishing 29th in the majors with 644 runs scored.
Swanson is expected to bat ahead of Seiya Suzuki, Ian Happ, and Patrick Wisdom in the Cubs' lineup.
Suzuki is a former Rookie of the Year in the Japanese Baseball League. He signed a five-year, $85 million contract with the Cubs in March of 2022.
Happ is a two-time All-Star who has been with the Cubs since 2017.
Wisdom is a power hitter who led the Cubs with 29 home runs in 2022.
